Oregano Oil: A natural antibiotic
Oregano Oil Benefits
Antibiotics are often prescribed for a variety of ailments, and are often a doctors and patients favorite!
But Oregano Oil has been shown to be superior to some antibiotics, without the harmful side effects.
Unfortunately, many antibiotics prescribed by medical doctors today have horrendous side effects including: destroying good bacteria, causing antibiotic resistance, reducing the absorption of good for us vitamins, and damaging our digestive lining. Yikes!
Broad-spectrum antibiotics (which are usually prescribed) target a lot of bacteria, not just the one causing illness, so a lot of our good bacteria are wiped out from the process. Damage that can take years to bring to normal.
The good news is there are natural alternatives to prescription antibiotics, and one of them is a oregano oil.
Oil of oregano contains two powerful compounds of carvacrol and thymol. These have powerful anti-bacterial and anti-fungal properties.
Oregano Oil Benefits!
Medicinal grade oregano is distilled to extract the essential oil and to preserve its healing compounds.
There are almost 1000 studies referencing Oregano Oil in PubMed, clearly highlighting it’s ability to heal. Oil of oregano is a potent anti-bacterial, anti-fungal, anti-parasitic agent. Can be used for Candida, to reduce inflammation, and for allergies.
Antibiotic Effect
This past December, Journal of Medicinal Food published a study that evaluated the antibacterial activity of oregano oil against 5 different types bad bacteria. After evaluating the anti-bacterial characteristics of oil of oregano it showed significant anti-bacterial properties against all 5 species of harmful bacteria.
Interestingly, the highest activity was observed against E. Coli, which suggests that oregano oil should be routinely used to promote gastrointestinal health and to prevent deadly food poisoning.
Oregano Oil: How to Use
Because of its potency, medicinal use should only be administered under the guidance of a natural health expert or health care provider.
When facing a cold or fever, I personally take oregano oil internally for a maximum of 10 days. Every morning I dilute 5 drops in a cup of hot water. It has a strong, spicy kick to it, so be prepared!
